External Door Measuring Guide
Step-by-Step Guide to Measuring for an External Composite Door (Brick to Brick -10mm)
Step 1: Measure the Width of the Door Frame (Brick to Brick)
- Take three width measurements from the brickwork:
- Top of the door frame (A) – measure from the brick on one side of the frame to the brick on the other side.
- Middle of the door frame (B) – measure across the middle of the frame, brick to brick.
- Bottom of the door frame (C) – measure the width at the bottom of the frame, again brick to brick.
Tip: Use a level or straight edge to ensure your measurements are accurate across the brick surface.
- Important:
- Take the smallest width measurement from A, B, or C.
- Subtract 10mm from this smallest width measurement. This 10mm clearance (5mm on each side) ensures a proper fit during installation.
Step 2: Measure the Height of the Door Frame (Brick to Floor)
- Take two height measurements:
- Measure from the top of the brickwork to the floor on the left side (D1).
- Measure from the top of the brickwork to the floor on the right side (D2).
- Important:
- Use the smallest height measurement from D1 or D2.
- Subtract 10mm from this height to allow for proper clearance (5mm at the top and bottom of the frame).
Step 3: Check Diagonal Measurements
- Measure diagonally across the door frame to check if the frame is square:
- From top-left corner to bottom-right corner.
- From top-right corner to bottom-left corner.
If the two diagonal measurements are not equal, the frame may not be square. This can be corrected during installation by using shims or packing materials.

Example:
If your width measurements are 950mm at the top, 948mm in the middle, and 949mm at the bottom, the smallest width is 948mm. After subtracting 10mm, the width to order is 938mm.
If your height measurements are 2100mm on the left and 2102mm on the right, the smallest height is 2100mm. After subtracting 10mm, the height to order is 2090mm.
